Family/Marriage

Merry Christmas

I love the holiday season for so many random reasons, but the most important one is the idea that my entire family stops our always chaotic lives to simply be together. We travel from near and far for this one very precious time of the year. This moment of fellowship is filled with games, singing, crafts, and a lot of food. For years we have gathered together beautifully around the Christmas tree, smiling and laughing. You want to know what else also gathers around that Christmas tree? Drama. Massive and infinite drama.

Too many times we get so bogged down by our families, our issues, and most certainly our past. We enter Christmas with a chip on our shoulder from a remark that was said a month ago at Thanksgiving or have some sort of prejudice towards our uncle who divorced his wife over the past year. Sometimes it’s much deeper. Our pain has somehow creeped its way into the holiday season with us as our plus one. Our fears for the future, our lack of hope for tomorrow, yes, all of it is ignorant to the joy of Christmas.

What should we do? Fake our way through the turkey and the presents? Implode and lash out at those around us? No, because the reality is Christmas is not about you or about me. Christmas is a celebration. An opportunity, despite the mess and chaos, to truly embark on a journey of gratitude for the One who, above all else, saved you. In short- our focus has to change. What you focus on is your reality. During this season just know that when there has been a loss- Jesus is there. Know that when there has been excruciating pain in your marriage- Jesus is there. When you realize your family is in a broken place this season- Jesus is absolutely there.

My hope for you, and for me, is that this Christmas we seek to focus our hearts, minds, and spirit fully on Him. Give Him the biggest birthday celebration in your heart because He is there with you. Are there avenues we can take and interventions we can use to alleviate some of the mess this Christmas? Of course. However, above all things, keep your mind on Him.This will be the pivoting factor as you gather around your Christmas trees. Merry Christmas my friends. And may the Lord forever be with you during this season. \

Peace, love, and strength

I love this! All too often we allow the unnecessary sometimes entertaining drama of life cloud the true moments that matter! Something about the holidays seem to magnify the drama or offer front row tickets to the show, lol.
Life can be hard, and sometimes putting the mistakes or not so perfect moments of friends and family on front street kind of make you feel less alone in the fight of life ! Im sure it sounds a little far fetched as you read this but really think about!
So now year after year, the holiday gathering becomes more about tradition rather than source, God.
